Description
Presenting our Spalted Italian Alder Bowl, a handcrafted piece that highlights the quiet beauty of naturally figured timber. Turned by Jon Baily in his Cambridgeshire workshop, this bowl showcases the warm honey and golden-brown tones for which alder is prized, enhanced by the unique markings created through the natural spalting process.
The bowl displays a pleasing mix of colour and texture, with darker streaks and feathered patterns running through the timber. These natural features give the piece its own distinctive character, ensuring that no two bowls are ever exactly alike.
Measuring 14cm in diameter and 5cm high, the bowl is ideally suited to serving nuts, olives, chocolates, dried fruit or other small treats. Its compact size also makes it an attractive decorative piece for a table, shelf or desk.
Jon finishes the bowl with pure tung oil, a natural polymerising oil that enriches the colour of the timber and highlights the detail within the grain. This food-safe finish makes the bowl suitable for both hot and cold foods while allowing the natural beauty of the wood to remain the focal point.
Combining practical everyday use with the character that only natural timber can provide, this Spalted Italian Alder Bowl brings warmth, craftsmanship and individuality to any home.
