Students from the Bodger's Ball 2023

Hello fellow crafters and woodworking enthusiasts!

I am delighted to invite you to a unique learning opportunity I’ll lead on the 9th and 10th of May at the Weald and Downland Outdoor Museum. My courses are part of the Pre-Fest Coures (the Ball takes place on the 11th & 12th of May). Join me for a beginner to intermediate pole-lathe bowl turning course during this year’s Bodgers Ball, where we’ll delve into the traditional craft of woodturning.

What You’ll Learn

This course is perfect for anyone interested in exploring the traditional technique of turning raw wood into beautifully crafted bowls. You’ll discover the history and craftsmanship of pole lathe turning. A skill that not only connects us with the woodworking traditions of our ancestors but also offers the satisfaction of creating something tangible and functional.

Pole Lathe Course Experience

As your instructor, I will provide you with your own pole lathe setup, complete with the necessary hook tools and a bowl blank mounted on a mandrel. Throughout the course, I’ll guide you through the fundamentals. Including understanding the tools to mastering the techniques needed for the precision shaping of wood.

This hands-on experience is designed to immerse you in the craft. Note that you will be standing and will need to use your knees, hips, and upper body throughout the day. This is something to consider if you have physical constraints. However, those with reasonable fitness should find the course enjoyable and rewarding. Your safety is paramount, so I will provide eye protection, and you must wear closed shoes.
