Description
Presenting our Spalted Beech Fruit Bowl, a truly distinctive piece handcrafted by Jon Baily in Cambridgeshire. Created from beautifully spalted beech, this bowl showcases nature’s artistry through dramatic dark zone lines and intricate patterns that weave throughout the timber, making every angle a new point of interest.
Key Features:
Striking Natural Spalting: The bowl displays exceptional spalting, with bold dark markings and intricate lines formed naturally within the wood. These unique patterns create a one-of-a-kind piece that cannot be replicated.
Elegant Fruit Bowl Form: Measuring 21cm in diameter and 8cm high, the bowl offers generous capacity while maintaining a graceful, balanced shape. Perfect for displaying fruit, serving food, or as a decorative centrepiece.
Traditional Thread Repair: A natural crack within the timber has been stabilised using a traditional waxed thread repair. Rather than disguising the wood’s natural movement, this feature celebrates the material’s character and reflects a long-established woodworking tradition.
Finished with Natural Tung Oil: The bowl is protected with pure tung oil. This natural polymerising oil enhances the depth and contrast of the grain. In addition, it provides a durable, food-safe finish suitable for both hot and cold foods.
Handcrafted in Cambridgeshire: Each bowl is individually turned and finished by Jon Baily, preserving the unique character of the timber and ensuring that every piece is entirely individual.
A Functional Work of Art: Whether used as a fruit bowl, serving dish, or decorative display piece, the remarkable spalting patterns make this bowl a natural focal point in any room.
Simple to care for, requiring only gentle hand washing and immediate drying. This Spalted Beech Fruit Bowl combines natural beauty, traditional craftsmanship, and everyday practicality. It is a unique celebration of both the woodturner’s skill and the extraordinary patterns created by nature itself.
