Bowl Turning at the Agroforestry Open Weekend 2025

May 17 @ 10:00 am - May 18 @ 4:00 pm

I’m Jon Baily, a traditional bowl-turner, and I’ll be demonstrating my craft at Wakelyns during the Agroforestry Open Weekend. Visit on Saturday, May 17th, or Sunday, May 18th, 2025, to see me in action and learn more about the heritage of bowl turning. Many of my bowls are made from Italian Alder grown right here at Wakelyns. Be the first to have the opportunity to purchase one if you’d like a special piece to take home.If you enjoy what you see, consider joining one of my Bowl Turning Courses later in the year, where you can try your hand at the craft and create your own wooden bowl.

Beyond my demonstrations, there’s so much more to experience! Join Paul J, our experienced arborist, for a guided tree walk. Gain insights into agroforestry from Paul W, and explore the natural world of Wakelyns with Harry from Wakelyns Nature. Learn about the Contemporary Hempery project from Claire and Kitty, and see how Gill cares for the wild bees on-site.

The Organic Research Centre team will also be there to share their research and discuss Wakelyns’ role in a significant EU-wide agroforestry study. Plus, this year, we’re pleased to welcome David Wege. He will be leading introductory tracking walks.

With activities for children and delicious food from the Wakelyns Bakery, it promises to be a fantastic day out.

Admission is free, and I’d be delighted to see you there!
