May 8 @ 10:00 am - 5:00 pm£125
I am thrilled to announce that I will be helping people to learn to use a pole-lathe at this year’s Bodger’s Ball.
Learn to use a Pole-lathe
This bowl-turning course takes place at the scenic Burwash Manor. It aims to provide a fantastic opportunity for beginners and those with prior wood-turning experience to hone their skills. Under the guidance of expert instructors, participants will learn how to utilize a pole-lathe and specialist hook tools required to turn a beautiful and functional bowl.
To ensure attendees have as much time as possible to practice their newly acquired skills on the lathe, greenwood bowl blanks will be provided. Throughout the course, participants will also have the chance to engage in informative discussions about the unique properties of greenwood and why it is the ideal material for bowl turning.
Aside from the practical aspects of the course, there will also be a focus on the theoretical knowledge necessary to excel in the craft. This includes:
- an introduction to the art of sharpening hook tools,
- an overview of the pole lathe build,
- and a discussion on the types of wood best suited for bowl turning.
By the end of the day, each participant will have acquired a wealth of new knowledge and practical skills. They will also take home a beautifully crafted bowl as a tangible reminder of their accomplishments. Who knows, they may even discover a newfound passion for greenwood turning!
